By definition, a revolutionary skincare product should be one that is radically new or innovative. Some of the products that use the title fit that definition. Others do not.
Truthfully, the cosmetic industry could stand to be revolutionized. Research suggests that the cosmetics commonly used on the market today and in previous years contributed to health problems like cancer.
Many of the ingredients are known to be toxic to the central nervous system. Others are known to interfere with the body’s natural hormonal production. The heavy metals lead and mercury were at one time common ingredients in cosmetics. Some of the pigments used in lipsticks on the market today are lead-based.
Then there are the contaminants. Independent researchers have tested numerous cosmetics for toxic contaminants. Things like dioxins were found to be present at high levels and there is no way for the consumer to know.
Dioxins are contaminants that form when two or more ingredients combine. They are not listed on the label. Dioxins are known to cause cancer.
Next are the fragrance ingredients. Because of loopholes in laws concerning trade secrets, the actual chemicals used to create the fragrances in so-called revolutionary skincare products do not have to be listed on the label.
Pretty much all of the chemicals are allergens. Many of them are known neurotoxins. How can a person protect themselves if the companies will not even list the ingredients on the label?
Many manufacturers believe that no one cares about the ingredients. Anyone who has ever had an allergic reaction cares. The only way to prevent a future reaction is to avoid the allergen.
Some people are lured in by the term hypoallergenic. The only thing the term means is that the product is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than the company’s regular products. There is no legal definition.
A truly revolutionary skincare product would not contain allergens. There are effective non-allergenic ingredients for all of our needs.
A number of new products are being sold only over the internet. That makes them more affordable for us, which is a good thing. They are more affordable, because the middleman (the retailer) is cut out of the equation.
When you compare these products, you should make sure that the manufacturer fully discloses all of the ingredients. When they make broad statements such as “provides UV and UVB protection” without disclosing the ingredient that provides the protection, it seems as though they have something to hide.
Manufacturers should have a revolutionary skincare philosophy. One of the best companies I know of set out to make the best anti-aging products at the most affordable price or make nothing at all.
Groups of manufacturers have joined together in recent years. They may create something of a revolution. They have agreed to use the European Union’s more stringent guidelines for safe cosmetics.
If something is truly a revolutionary skincare product, it should be completely safe. We have spent enough time over the years worrying about our safety. It’s time for the cosmetic companies to do what’s right.
